Job Title: Staff Software Engineer, Systems Design @ Tilt

Tilt (check us out here) is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Systems Design to join our team and help us scale our business by guiding the architecture, interfaces and technologies to be used in our systems. This position is a full-time role reporting to our Engineering Manager. We want you to be successful here at Tilt! Below is a description of your role and responsibilities, including the things you will be held accountable for and the virtues, behaviors and competencies that are expected for this role. 

Job Description: Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

Ensuring completion of the entire life cycle of solutions from requirements and design to regular maintenance, updates, and fixes

Driving important testing methodologies, guiding team members in best practices for verification and quality assurance, and validating technical solutions

Building the next generation of our UI and UX using NextJs & React and reusable components

Improving the server-side infrastructure of our Django application

Guide projects from concept to delivery by vetting early-stage ideas and actively engaging in product lifecycle stages

Collaborating across teams and functions to define dependencies, ensure technical alignment, and build better user experiences

Collectively owning the codebase, ensuring service reliability, and maintaining platform availability

Being a steward of privacy by design and software quality principles

Mentoring and guiding junior, mid-level, and senior engineers, fostering a positive and collaborative environment, and promoting continuous learning and improvement

Maintaining a culture of security, privacy and transparency 

Minimizing the risk to Tilt and our customers sensitive data through adherence to company security practices 

Minimizing the risk to Tilt and our customers sensitive data through privacy by design 

Participating in Security Awareness Training through KnowBe4, which provides information around email security best practices and training on identifying malicious emails

You’re a great fit if: 

You are a backend engineer with 8+ years in software development 

You have extensive experience in developing strategic systems architecture plans and deep proficiency in 1 - 2 programming languages, with a willingness and ability to quickly ramp up on our stack (NextJs, React, Python/Django)

You possess strong knowledge of software evaluation and information processing principles, along with excellent technical documentation skills

You have experience with Docker/K8s or are interested in learning more 

You have high levels of empathy and can connect deeply with Tilt’s mission

You are comfortable working in ambiguous environments and know that we need your help to figure things out

You are a comfortable using a lot of systems at once, and have the ability to learn software quickly

You’re fearlessly flexible, curious; aka you thrive in this environment and love a challenge!

You have experience working with a startup and/or with a B2B SaaS business

Total Compensation 

The projected annual salary range is $160,000-$195,000 USD plus stock options (ISOs), because we believe everyone should have some stake in our business. We are people-first and this ain’t some PR jazz, we truly give a damn about our peeps!

Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits paid at 100% for all employees and 50% for dependents.
